Loving husband and father went home to be with the Lord on June 2, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 20, 1918, in Prestonsburg, KY, the son of John and Anna (Calhoun) DeRossett. On June 10, 1939, he married Lexie Cook in Pikeville, Kentucky. Oscar loved the Lord and served Him faithfully for almost 60 years. He was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church serving as a Sunday School Teacher, Trustee, Choir Member, Greeter, and cleaned the Church for over 25 years. Oscar was employed with the Willow Run and Ypsilanti Public Schools for several years. He will always be remembered for his love of gardening and working in his yard. Survivors include his wife, Lexie, of 71 years; three children: Ruby (Richard) Shafer, Verneil Hensley and Gene (Sandy) DeRossett; four grandchildren: Karen (Mike), Karmen (Chad), Lori (Bruce) and Alan (Cindy); three step-grandchildren, Cheryl, Terri and Chris (Malena); thirteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and one brother, Frank (Dordena) DeRossett. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, four brothers and son-in-law, Fred Hensley Jr. Funeral service will be celebrated on Monday, June 6, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Rex Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Saline, Michigan. Contributions in his memory may be made to the First Free Will Baptist Church, St. Joseph Mercy Hospice or a charity of your choice. Envelopes will be available at the Janowiak Funeral Home where the family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and at the Church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. The family would also like to thank St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and St. Joseph Mercy Hospice for their loving care.
